Leadership Academy for Emerging Leaders

Supervision 101 February 19 

Supervisors are critical to influencing and leading a team to success. With responsibility for setting team goals, maintaining discipline, and providing feedback, all while avoiding legal landmines, this can be a daunting task. This first session in the Leadership Academy series will provide you with the “tools in your toolbox” to successfully navigate the world of supervision.

Learn about the significance and unique characteristics of project management, including the fundamental impact the “triple constraints” of scope, schedule and cost have on project activities. Discover the top challenges to project success and explore keys to the successful management and leadership of any type of project, regardless of industry. 

Persuasive Communication & Dealing with Difficult People April 22 

Communication within a team and between team members, peers, direct reports and managers can require vastly different skill sets. This is especially true when you are trying to build an individual working relationship with a difficult personality. Learn strategies for handling ten types of problem people without becoming frustrated & stressed, for delivering information and influencing others in a persuasive manner. 

Professionalism & Ethics May 20 

In this rapidly changing world, how do you know what the right move might be? Good gut instincts or a great moral upbringing are not sufficient. We will talk about potential traps you might run into, and explore tools for recognizing and handling them well. 

Finance for Non-Financial Managers June 17 

Financial skills are fundamental to any managerial position. Learn how to think finance, and you’ll expand your career opportunities. Non-financial managers will learn to read/understand financial statements, avoid common financial pitfalls, apply key financial concepts, and utilize financial techniques that can help make each decision pay off.

Starts on: 2/5/20 @ 5:30 PM 

This hybrid class is presented online with optional weekly lab sessions for in-person support from the instructor. 

Learn basic the practical skills necessary to succeed in a bookkeeping role including; accounting principles and the accounting cycle. Provides comprehensive instruction within the QuickBooks program and helps prepare for the QuickBooks Certified User Exam. Students should expect to spend a minimum of 10 hours/week (120 total). 3 mandatory in person sessions required; book & online access is included.

Introduction to Payroll 

Starts on: 2/3/20 @ 6:30 PM 

This hybrid class is presented online with optional weekly lab sessions for in-person support from the instructor. 

In this introduction to payroll, students will learn the accounting cycle related to employee pay and taxes, including year-end reporting. A comprehensive project will be completed in QuickBooks to wrap up this course. Students should expect to spend a minimum of 10 hours/week (120 total). 3 mandatory in person sessions required; book & online access is included.
